Look Behind and AheadIf you feel your Technology Readiness Survey results may have placed you higher than you feel you may truly be feel free to dip down into a lower benchmark level to take some introductory courses
|
Look for OverlapsLook for any overlapping courses in your recommended benchmark level for your required pathways and focus your efforts on those in order to make progress in multiple pathways at the same time
|
Prioritize Your PathsPrioritize your pathways in terms of which you need the most training in until you achieve equal benchmark levels in all your pathways and then switch to the "divide your time equally" strategy
|
Divide Your Time Equally Divide your professional learning time equally between all the applicable pathways to you so you progress at the same rate in all categories

STILL NOT SURE?
Check out some examples below
Mark JonesMeet Principal Jones. He is an elementary school principal. His Technology Readiness Survey results placed him at a Basic level. He visited our pathways and found that, because he is an administrator at a 1:1 school, there were 6 EdTech Learning Pathways that applied to his job and school context. Rather than get overwhelmed, he carefully reviewed the list of required pathways and made a list of the required introductory courses as well as the recommended basic level courses for all the pathways. He found that there were several courses that were listed for multiple pathways and quickly eliminated the repeats. Now he has a short list of courses he needs to complete this school year. Mark decides that, with his workload as a principal, he can commit to completing one course per month. So, he selects 9 courses and writes them into his Professional Growth Plan as his individualized EdTech Learning Pathway. Now that Mr. Jones sees the value in this process he wants his whole faculty to participate. He already knows that there is a wide gap in technology competence on his campus and sees how the Technology Readiness Survey and EdTech Learning Pathways can be a powerful tool to move his whole faculty forward and better meet the needs of his students. Furthermore, he has been undecided about who to select to be his Site Technology Facilitator and he knows the data from the survey will help him to make an informed decision to put the most qualifies person in that position as possible.
Janet BrownMeet Ms. Brown. She is the School Secretary for a bustling high school. She is often applauded for her attention to detail and efficiency at her job. The 9th graders at her school are receiving Chromebooks this year and she has been hearing rumors about our district going Google. In fact, she has heard that G Suite can make her workflow even more efficient. So, Ms. Brown takes our Technology Readiness Survey and scores a Basic. She found that many of her previous skills crossed over into a Google environment and helped her to rank higher than expected. She eagerly takes a look at the 2 pathways recommended for her and is excited to see there is a pathway specifically for office workers! This means she does not have to wade through a bunch of education jargon to get the exact skills she needs. She locates the courses recommended for the Basic level and sees many products mentioned she is unfamiliar with. Though she was impressed with her results, she is a little unsure about skipping so many lower level courses. She decides that for Apps she has never heard of she will take the Approaching Basic courses voluntarily just to be sure she has not missed anything.

Linda MillerMeet Mrs. Miller. With almost 15 years in the classroom, she is a veteran teacher. When she started teaching the only technology she really needed to know was how to use her email account. Now it seems technology is an ever-increasing part of her daily job and she is struggling to keep up. She takes our Technology Readiness Survey and is placed in the Introduction level. Luckily she teaches 11th grade ELA, so she is not yet in a 1:1 Chromebook classroom environment. However, she knows it is very likely she will be in the near future and knows that her students already need opportunities to use technology for learning. Ms. Miller is glad there is now a clear path to preparedness and success for her so she will be ready to be a digital teacher. So, she takes a look at the 4 pathways for teachers outside the 1:1 and decides to work on them all simultaneously to progress in all of them at the same rate. Since she is a veteran teacher and highly motivated Ms. Miller knows she can handle completing 2 courses a month. So, she looks at the pathways that apply to her and selects one course from each to complete each month. She then writes this plan into her Professional Growth Plan and is excited to see that, by the end of the school year, she can expect to be working on some of the Basic courses for her pathways.
Casey RodriguezMeet Mr. Rodriguez. He is a bright-eyed and passionate new middle school teacher with a penchant for technology. He has been using G Suite Apps to manage his personal life for several years. Because of Mr. Rodriguez's familiarity with Google Apps, he is excited to hear that his students will all have Chromebooks. He cannot wait to start his teaching career in the 1:1 environment of his dreams. He takes our Technology Readiness Survey and is placed in the Mastery category. When he looks at the Mastery level courses in his recommended EdTech Learning Pathways he sees some familiar products, but is excited about the possibility to learn some new tricks. However, he is a fast learner and decides to also take a look at some of the Advanced coursework and options just to see what else there is. He quickly decides he wants to be in the Advanced group by the end of his first semester of teaching. So, he uses the recommended courses in his EdTech Learning Pathways to draft a Professional Growth Plan that meets his goals. Meanwhile, his principal notices Mr. Rodriguez's high survey results and earmarks him as a potential technology leader on her campus.
